7th People of Colour in SF Carnival

The 7th “PoC in SF” Carnival is up on Seeking Avalon:

I started collecting links for this carnival wanting to find us; wanting to find sites that uplifted and gave hope and were examples of what we’re doing in in the SciFi & Fantasy world, how we’re creating and making a place for ourselves. We meaning People of Colour.

Maybe I’m on the wrong mental frequency, maybe I found what I was feeling – which was frustration and anger. Because I started out thinking I was collecting links of hope but by the end as I started writing this up, the hopeful section seemed smaller and smaller. And then as I found more links, the cock-eyed wrongness, the sheer ‘oh no they didn’t’ kept popping up neon red and singing.

So I’m going to say something long and loud, a heavy slice of this Carnival is about the harm of Street/ Urban Lit. And then I’m going to cheer myself and hopefully the rest of you up, by posting some FUBU links – For Us By Us.

So there’s a depressing collection of links followed by a cheering collection of links, like a dreary cup of instant coffee with coffee whitener followed by a double espresso made with organic fair trade pure arabica coffee with properly frothed fluffy milk. Mmm.

Sadly, the next PoC in SF Carnival is going to be over at the Six Apart place. Still, it sounds like it will transcend the awful surroundings, so send your links to: ladyj dot 965 at gmail dot com, deadline: February 29th.

Kind of OT, but LJ is no longer “the Six Apart place”. They sold it to a Russian company called SUP.

You’re right. I just find “the Six Apart place” more euphonious, where “the SUP place” just sounds… eh.

Hah! Hmm. Well, you could always call it, “the Den of Censorship” but I suppose that sounds more humorous than ominous ;)

Actually, what I “hear” when I write “over at the Six Apart place” is the chorus singing “Over at the Frankenstein place”, so…

SUP might re-sell. I need a nickname for LJ that’ll work whoever owns it.
