Newsflash – Nalo Hopkinson Imprint

March 1st, 2008
by Naamenblog

For those who haven’t heard, Nalo Hopkinson will be getting her own imprint from Canada’s own Red Deer Press. It is meant to be a complement to/be complemented by Robert J. Sawyer’s own imprint from the same press. Nalo has stated that it will be a reprint imprint, at least half of the imprints list will be Canadian authors and that she expects to release about three books a year.

No name for the imprint yet but I cannot wait to see what forgotten gems Nalo pulls out for reprinting.

For those who don’t know Nalo Hopkinson is a Canadian author, who was born in Jamaica and has lived in Guyana and Trinidad. Her amazing books of Carribean inspired F/SF include: Brown Girl In The Ring, Midnight Robber, Salt Roads, Skin Folk and her latest The New Moons Arms. She has also edited collections such as Mojo: Conjure Stories and  So Long Been Dreaming: Postcolonial Visions of the Future.

Here’s the link for Nalo’s site, and you can buy a lot of her books directly from her online bookshop. I just bought The New Moon’s Arms!

I’m really curious what’s going to come out from the new imprint.

Liz- You will love New Moon’s Arms! It had some things that bothered me but it felt it was realistic to that character and that place.

The New Moon’s Arms is fabulous. Even when the main character was screwing up and had a bad attitude, I was still rooting for her to do better and grow, and she did. Not 100%, which is like real life, but she did.
