FSF Wiki Work

I was over on the FSF Wiki looking for the page with 2009 award eligible women and discovered that it hadn’t been created yet.  So I went ahead and did so.  As always, everyone is encouraged to come and add relevant information.

I want to call particular attention to the Talk page for the entry, as I have some questions about structure and organization.

Once that question is hashed out, it looks like the main work that needs doing is putting in all of the short fiction and novels that have been published thus far.  It’s only April, so there’s not too much.

Another thing I would like to see ongoing attention to is getting women & people of color on the committees of awards that have committee involvement anywhere in the selection process. I was recently at a talk by Ben Barres, where he reiterated the statistics about what happens to grants and awards and honorary memberships for women in science when there are actually women (not just one, but plural women) on the committees: numbers go from outrageously low to something approaching proportionality. Because it seems that people are unwilling or unable or don’t know to look beyond the blinkers of their privilege, we simply have to ensure adequate representation in the pools of decision-makers.

Liz and Cheryl went ’round about that in the World fantasy Awards thread. I would love to have some sort of listing on the FSFWiki (and eventually the Carl Brandon one) of women who would/should/could serve on award committees for reference. Thing is, I have no idea of the shape of such a listing and who would determine the folks on it–other than just people interested in editing the wiki. how to determine notability, for lack of a better word.
